Social workers get to work with lots of different kinds of youth. The youth that social workers work with have a big impact on them. The thing is people think that it is only social workers that impact youth, but they are wrong. Some social workers must deal with kids that are high-risk, which can impact their lives because they must make sure they stay up-to-date on specialty training that they do to help their youth. They must make sure that they always check up on them because anything can happen at any time.
Lots of social workers stay in contact with their youth after the youth’s file closes. They see how they are doing and if they have done anything new in their lives. Some youth make it so that their social worker can see the things that are wrong with social services, and hopefully fix them? Most of the workers just do their jobs and collect their paycheck. Some workers like that their youth have different views on things because that helps them with seeing things in a different way.
The thing is that people think since we are kids in care that we cannot impact someone’s life but really we are some of the people that can have the biggest impact on another person’s life. I have had many social workers tell me that they have learned lots from me.
